Description

Smith End Farm House is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, substantially altered and refronted in the early 19th century. The house is timber-framed and has a red brick front, rendered and weatherboarded to the rear, with a tiled roof. It comprises a long range of six bays. The two-storey front has four windows, grouped in pairs at the ends, and is blank in the centre where the original axial ridge stack rises with five conjoined diagonal shafts. A plinth is present. A gabled brick porch addition is on the right-hand side, with a projecting bay window to the left and a 16-pane sash window to the right. Above the entrance, which has a raking tiled hood on brackets, is a 16-pane sash window. To the right of this are two 20-pane sashes. All openings have recessed cambered heads. Small gables break the eaves. The left end is rendered and has a 19th-century white brick external stack, while the first floor has a three-light casement window. The right end is weatherboarded. At the rear, a catslide roof covers a continuous lean-to outshut, incorporating an early external stack behind the right bay, as well as scattered casement windows and doors. The interior has not been inspected.
