Description

Numbers 25 (Tithe Cottage), 27, and 29 (Barn End) are former aisled barns located between Manor Farm House and the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. These buildings date back to the 16th century and were converted into three dwellings around 1980. They feature a timber frame construction with weatherboarding and a tiled roof. The structure consists of five bays, originally longer, with an early short one-bay addition towards the road. The roof slopes down to a low eaves line over the aisles. The buildings have inserted entrances, casement windows of various sizes, tall gabled and raking dormers, and chimney stacks. Inside, some of the original framing is exposed, including jowled arcade and wall posts, arched braces connecting the arcade posts to cambered tie beams and arcade plates, and passing braces. The roof structure includes a queen post clasped purlin design.
