Description
Number 12 is an 18th-century brick house, originally numbers 10 and 10A, along with an adjoining building. The main part of the house is constructed of chequered red and grey bricks with an old tiled roof and a wooden cornice. It is two storeys high with two sash windows, featuring glazing bars within reveals under cambered arches. A round-headed doorway has a dummy fanlight. The adjoining building originally number 10A also dates to the 18th century, constructed of red and grey bricks with an old tiled roof, wooden modillioned cornices, and a gabled dormer. It is two storeys high with attic space, and features two sash windows with glazing bars within reveals under cambered arches. It has a dummy fanlight to its plain round-headed doorway. To the left of number 10A is another 18th-century red and grey brick house with red brick dressings and a parapet concealing the roof. This building is three storeys high with moulded bands on the first and second floors, and a moulded eaves cornice. It has three sash windows in shallow reveals under flat arches; the upper floors have glazing bars, and there is a central dummy window on the second floor. A plinth sits below, with two small cellar windows. The front door features six fielded panels, two of which are glazed, and a traceried fanlight set within an arched reveal, accessed by two stone steps. The building is part of a group of properties, including numbered 6, 6A, 8, 10, 14, 14A, 14B, 14C, 16, 20, 24, 24A, 26, 32 to 42 (even), a gateway and wall in front of Wynne's Almshouses, and numbers 46, 46A, 48 to 52 (even).
