Description
This is a row of four 18th-century buildings on East Street, forming part of a group with numbers 10 and 12 and the Red Lion public house. The buildings are constructed of red brick, with numbers 11 and 13 having painted brickwork. They have tiled roofs, with numbers 9 and 11 featuring a parapet, and number 13 a modillion eaves cornice.
The buildings are two and a half storeys in height with basements, and each has one attic dormer window. They have six windows each, with sash windows and glazing bars, although the glazing bars are missing from number 9. Number 11 has boxed window frames. Each doorway features pilasters, a pediment, and a radial fanlight above a six-panel door (the two upper panels of number 9’s door are now glazed). The doorway of number 9 has moulded architraves and a glazed approach that has subsequently been built over.
A recessed building at the rear of number 9 is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and features two storeys and five windows, including one blank. These windows are sashes with glazing bars and cambered head linings, topped with a loft door.
