Description
Fareham House is a large double L-shaped house located on the north side of East Street in Fareham, dating from the early 18th century and early 19th century. The south front, which is from the early 18th century, features grey headers with red brick dressings, including gauged flat window arches and quoins around the central window bay that projects. There are stucco sill bands at the first and second floors, and pilasters flank the facade. The building has a parapet with a stucco eaves cornice and stands three storeys tall with five sash windows that have glazing bars. A porch is present, along with modern additions to the west side of the house.
On the east, or garden front, there is a contemporary large curved bay with three windows on each floor, and an additional similar bay added around 1800, which is two storeys high and faced with white brick. Between the bays are three windows, with modern bays added on the ground and first floors, and one more on the north side. The added bays have sash windows, but the glazing bars are missing. The building features a cornice and parapet. Fareham House, along with Nos 1 to 13 (odd), the Surgery, and the Red Lion, forms a group of buildings of local interest.
