Description

These are two staff houses, located at 22 and 24 Horn Hill, in St Paul's Walden, built around 1815. They are now two private houses. The buildings are constructed of red brick with a pyramidal slate roof and a plastered eaves soffit. They are a square, two-storey block, two windows wide, with a large, rectangular central chimney stack and reserved-chamfered corners. Side entrances are accessed via flat, gauged arches and three stone steps on the downhill side. The front elevation is symmetrical and features a plat band and flat, rubbed arches above the windows. Original sash windows have been replaced with recessed aluminium windows, but the original canted iron decorative railings to the first floor have been retained. The houses were built as a pair, contemporary with Trafalgar Cottage (number 16), to house the staff for that residence.
