Description

Offley Hoo and the adjoining stable were built around 1700, with an 18th-century brick casing added to the stable, and a rear block and upper floor of the kitchen wing dating from the mid-19th century. The house is constructed of red brick, with the front roughcast, while the stable features a timber frame that is visible only on the west gable. Both buildings have steep roofs, with red tiles on the house and slates on the stable.

The house is two storeys with attics, facing south, and includes a rear kitchen wing at the northeast. There is a central staircase between the hall and parlour in the front range, along with an attic stair in the wing. A taller 19th-century block is located at the rear angle, featuring two gables, one of which likely contains a corner fireplace that may have served as a farm office. The south front has a plat band and three gabled dormers on the roof slope, each with two-light casements. The first floor has five cross-windows, similar to those on the ground floor. A tiled gabled timber porch with red dressings is made of plum brickwork, preserved inside. The interior includes large square internal gable chimneys, and the main staircase rises only to the first floor, featuring three turned balusters on each tread of the cut string stair with an outswept foot. The first floor has two-panel doors with iron hinges, and the attic stair in the wing has serpentine splat balusters.

The stable block, which is 1.5 storeys, faces south and has a rear outshut, along with a brick mounting block in front. It features two stable doors and double doors with boarding above, as well as a wide passage next to the house providing access to a side door.
