Description
The icehouse at Icehouse Plantation in the park at Offley Place dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of red brick, with the lower section cut into chalk. The structure features a buried egg-shaped chamber that is approximately 5 meters in diameter, topped by a domed upper section leading to a deep conical lower part. There is a narrow, pointed vaulted brick access passage that enters from the north at the level of the dome, with steps at the entrance. This passage is currently unroofed. The covering consists of a two-ring brick dome made of chalk and flint, topped with soil.
