Description

No. 73 High Street is a house and shop that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 15th to 16th century. It features a hall house design with cross wings, which were altered in the early to mid-19th century. The structure is timber-framed, with the central two bays and the ground floor of each wing covered in red brick. It has a plain tile hipped roof, and the upper floors of the wings are jettied and plastered. The building is two storeys high and has four windows: casements in the wings and two flush sash windows in the center. The central door has four fielded panels and two flush panels, with gauged brick lintels above. The wings are adorned with curved brackets supporting the jetties and cusped wooden bargeboards. A shop window is located on the right side. The right cross wing is three bays deep, with its rear section likely dating from the 17th to 18th century, and features a first-floor Yorkshire casement in its side wall.
