Description

Bacon's House and Number 84, which includes attached outbuildings, is a house and shop that dates from the 17th century or earlier and was refronted in the mid-19th century. The building features a timber frame with a roughcast left gable end for Number 84 and painted brick on the right. It has a steeply pitched plain tile roof and is two storeys high with an attic. The front has four recessed 8/8-pane sash windows with gauged brick lintels and roll-moulded jambs. The door of Number 82 has a heavy brick surround with roll-moulded piers and a shaped cornice, featuring a moulded panel door with a 2-light fan above. Number 84 has a mid-19th century shop front with a half-glazed door and a 15-pane window, along with roll-moulded architraves with paterae and a cornice hood. There is a 17th-century leaded casement window in the left return gable end. Extending from the rear of Number 84 is a mid-19th century barn made of white brick with a slate roof and four small casements. At the rear of Number 82, there is a roughcast 17th-century gable end with various windows, including a 17th-century 2-light leaded attic casement. The barn extension on this side features plank doors alternating with sash windows on the ground floor.
