Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with later alterations in the 20th century. It is a two-cell building constructed with an exposed timber frame and rendered infill, with parts roughcast. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled. Originally a single storey and attic, the cottage now features a later open-gabled porch to the left of the original centre entrance. The ground floor has two light flush frame casements with leaded panes, two to the right and one to the left of the entrance. Above, immediately to the right of the entrance, is a small, early two-light window to the stairs. The timber frame displays small panel framing with prominent carpenter's marks, a mid rail, and passing tension braces at the upper level. Two-light gabled dormers are present. An axial ridge stack is situated to the right of the entrance. The right end features jowled posts to a cambered tie beam, with passing tension braces. A two-light casement is in the roughcast attic, and a projecting rectangular bay window is on the ground floor. Attached to the left is a 20th-century bay that closely follows the early block, with a further 20th-century wing extending to the rear left.
