Description
Hill End Farm Cottage consists of two farm cottages, outhouses, and a dairy, all connected in one range. Built around 1911 by E.L. Lutyens, reportedly for Mrs. Fenwick, the structure features dark red brick in English bond with lighter red dressings and tile heads to the vent slots in the dairy. The first floor has red tile-hanging in a recessed center. The steeply pitched red tile roofs have continuous tiled eaves corbel but lack a bellcast.
The cottages form a single rectangular block with two storeys, facing north. The upper floor is illuminated by gable windows on the east and west sides, and there is a large central gable behind the chimney on the south side. The front is recessed in the center, creating a two-storey elevation between the lower wings. Notable features include moulded plank doors, small-pane wooden flush casements painted white, and small outhouse roofs linked to the main roof over cross passages. A massive central red brick chimney has clasping corner pilasters and a waisted top.
Adjoining the west outhouse is a long single-storey dairy building with a similar roof and eaves detail, featuring only three small ventilation slots along the north side facing the road.
