Description
Church End Cottage is a house, likely dating from the 16th century, with significant alterations and extensions in the 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of timber frame with weatherboard cladding, and has a thatched roof. Originally, the house was probably a 2-bay open hall, to which a further bay was added to the right in the 17th century and a bay to the left in the 19th century. The house is one storey with attics. The earlier bays feature 20th-century 2-light flush frame timber casements with leaded lights. A rendered plinth is visible. Eyebrow dormers with thatched roofs and tiled sills contain 2 and 3-light leaded casements. The entrance is located on the right side, within a projecting gabled porch which acts as a lobby entry. An axial ridge stack was rebuilt in the 19th century. The bay to the right has a 3-light casement, a slightly taller ridge line, and a shallower roof pitch. The bay to the left also has a taller ridge line and a shallower roof pitch. The left gable end features leaded light horizontal sliding sashes. The right gable end has a ground floor entrance and a 2-light casement in the attic. A catslide roof extends over a roughcast lean-to rear outshut, originating from the 17th-century bay, and incorporates a dormer to the rear.
