Description
This early 17th-century barn range is located at Elms Yard, on the north side of Wymondley Stevenage Road, Little Wymondley. It is a timber-frame structure built on brick or flint sill walls, with dark weatherboarding to the exterior. Where the middle barn runs alongside the road, the timber frame is exposed with red brick infill. The barn range has steep, old red tile roofs. The arrangement is an irregular L-shape, comprising a tall, single-aisled western barn with its southern gable facing the road; a lower, four-bay barn adjoining it to the east, flush with the southern gable and backing onto the road; and an eastern barn extending east-northeast from the eastern end of the middle barn. The western barn has its aisle on the west side and features a gabled porch on the west, though this does not project beyond the aisle.
