Description
The barn and stable at Oakleys Farmhouse date from the 17th century and early 19th century, respectively. The barn features a timber frame that is dark weatherboarded, with a high sill made of red brick, and has a slate pitched roof. It is a tall structure with five bays, having a south gable facing east, while the lower stable extends east from the south end of the barn and faces north into the yard. The barn has double doors located in the first and fourth bays from the north. It includes jowled posts with a hollow chamfer at the chin of the jowls, long straight braces connecting to the tie-beam, and staggered mid-height rails in the walls. The roof is a clasped-purlin design supported by inclined straight queen-posts. There are brick buildings attached to the rear of the barn, but they are not of special interest.
