Description
Hillside Farm House is a house dating from around 1800, with a late 16th-century bay still intact, and has been extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame on a brick base and is rendered, topped with steeply pitched tiled roofs. The front of the house is symmetrical with three bays, including a stair wing and a kitchen outshut. The early bay survives at the rear right, making the overall shape of the building an L on plan. The house is two storeys high with a central entrance that has a six-panelled door, four of which are fielded, framed by a pilastered architrave and a flat hood that projects on iron colonnettes. The windows are 16-pane sashes with flush moulded frames. There are extruded red brick end stacks with offsets on the left and cement rendering on the right.
To the right end, there is a lower two-storey kitchen bay with a hipped roof and 20th-century casements. At the rear, there are three-light casements and a central lean-to stair wing. The early bay at the rear right has an extruded stack and a lean-to outshut on the outer elevation, with two and three-light casements on the first floor. The house was extended by two bays to the rear in the 20th century, featuring a central ridge stack and casements. Attached to the rear gable end is a low two-bay outbuilding with a brick and flint plinth, weatherboarding, and a pantiled roof, part of which is open to the yard. Inside, there is a dogleg staircase with slat balusters, newel posts, and a moulded handrail.
