Description

Old Sextons is a house that was formerly a church house, dating from the early to mid 16th century and altered in the 18th century. It features a timber frame on a brick base with a roughcast finish and a tiled roof. The building consists of three cells and is two storeys high, with jetties on three sides.

The entrance front has a door located to the left of centre, flanked by small casement windows with flush frames. Further to the right, there is a 12-pane horizontal sliding sash window, another entrance, and a two-light casement at the far right, where the jetty is underbuilt. On the first floor, there are one and two-light casements as well as two horizontal sliding sashes, with curved brackets supporting the jetty. The left end facing the road features dragon beams, a ground floor two-light casement, and a hipped roof.

At the rear, there is a ground floor horizontal sliding sash and two single-light casements, along with a red brick projection, likely an oven, topped with tile coping. The first floor has one and two-light casements and a horizontal sliding sash. An 18th-century red brick internal stack has been relocated behind the ridge between the two bays closest to the road. The right gable end is unjettied, exposing the plates and purlins. Inside, the building showcases close studding, braces from jowled posts, and moulded timber lintels above two fireplaces.
