Description
The Woolpack is a house dating from the mid-17th century, which has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is rendered, topped by a steeply pitched half-hipped thatched roof. The building consists of three bays and is two storeys high. The entrance is located in a 20th-century gabled porch with a tiled head, positioned to the left of centre. To the centre and right, there are three-light flush frame small pane casements, while to the left, there is a 20th-century casement on the ground floor and a two-light casement on the first floor. A ridge stack is situated to the right of centre. The left end has an early one-storey thatched lean-to outshut, which is set back slightly and features two-light casements. The rear of the building has large 20th-century additions that are one and two storeys high. Inside, there is a chamfered brick fireplace surround, a stop-chamfered bearer and fireplace lintel, exposed framing with tension braces, cambered tie beams, and a clasped purlin roof. The Woolpack was formerly a public house, and London Road is known to be the Roman Ermine Street.
