Description

This is an early 17th-century barn located at New Ramerwick Farm, situated on the east side of Bedford Road in Ickleford. Originally a barn, it was converted for grain processing in the 20th century. The barn is constructed with a timber frame resting on a tall red brick sill, and is weatherboarded with a steep-pitched roof now covered in corrugated iron. It has three bays facing east, with double doors in the central bay. The barn features jowled posts, unjowled posts in the middle bay, a mid-height rail jointed inline, straight tension braces, and a clasped-purlin roof with two purlins on each slope. High collar supports are present for the upper purlin, while inclined queen-posts support the lower purlin inside; gable-end trusses feature two collars. A roof projection accommodates an elevator.
