Description
This stable, located 70 meters to the north-north-east of Little Offley house, dates back to the 17th century. It features a timber frame resting on a brick sill and is covered in dark weatherboarding. The building has a steeply pitched, half-hipped roof that is now made of corrugated asbestos. It is a long structure with seven bays facing south, each with stable doors. The design includes jowled posts with curved braces supporting the tie-beams. The roof is a clasped-purlin type, with one purlin on each slope, and the trusses incorporate collar and queen-struts. Notably, one tie-beam has been reused from an open-truss of a domestic hall, featuring a long mortice with multiple peg-holes for arched braces.
