Description

No. 139 on Wilbury Road is a cottage built in 1906 by Bennett and Bidwell. It features roughcast over brick with a gabled plain tile roof and brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a rectangular plan, is one storey high with an attic, and includes a five-window range. The front has a segmental-arched door set in a gabled cross wing to the right, which has a lean-to roof that extends over a verandah on the right side wall. The windows are asymmetrically arranged, consisting of two to three-light wood casements with glazing bars. Inside, there are plank doors with Norfolk latches, a simple wood fireplace in the living room at the rear, and a winder stair to the left of the front door. C. B. Purdom praised the cottage for its compact planning in his 1913 work, "The Garden City."
