Description
This is a house, dating from the 16th century, likely around 1564, situated in Aston village. It is a small, T-shaped house with two houses attached to the west, which are of a later date and not considered to be of significant architectural interest.
The original construction is timber frame with plastered infill, the front of the building having red brick up to the ground floor window. The north end is clad in white weatherboarding, and a rear wing is tilehung. The roof is covered in old red tiles, with a tiled lean-to outshut at the southwest corner. A very large, external southern gable chimney is painted white, and a massive, end chimney with crow-steps and an axial shaft rises clear of the gable end. A small, gabled front dormer has been inserted into the eaves on the left side. The front features a canted three-light casement window and a six-panel moulded door with the top two panels glazed.
Inside, the house retains an original staircase and visible timber framing, including wide floor beams. There's a large fireplace with a timber lintol, plank doors on iron strap hinges, an 18th-century corner cupboard, and a mantel shelf.
