Description
Number 24, which includes a former smithy, is located in Aston village. The smithy dates from the 18th century, while the house was built in the early to mid-19th century. The smithy features a timber frame with dark weatherboarding and a steep red tiled roof adorned with bands of scalloped tiles. It is a single-storey, L-plan building with a hipped roof at the northwest corner, showing red brickwork of the hearth on the front wall and a short chimney above. There are three small kite-shaped rooflights on the ridge.
The house is two storeys tall with two windows and has a near-symmetrical front, featuring internal gable chimneys at each end. It is a two-cell house facing west, with a four-panel door leading into the left-hand room and a stair at the rear. The windows are recessed sash windows with 8/8 panes. This building is a focal point in views looking east within the conservation area and is included for its group value.
