Description

Glebe Cottage is a house located in Aston village, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber frame with dark weatherboarding and a roughcast front, along with a dark weatherboarded apron. The steep roof is covered with old red tiles. There is a lower east extension made of similar materials. The house is two storeys tall with a two-cell layout and a central chimney, following a lobby-entry plan. It faces south and has a nearly symmetrical front with two windows on each floor and a boarded door in the middle. The windows are three-light divided casement flush windows, which have been renewed. The one and a half storeys east extension has a front roofslope that extends over a front outshot. There is a gabled dormer on the roofslope featuring a two-light casement window, and a three-light casement window in the front wall to the left of the boarded double doors. Inside, the cottage has exposed framing and an open fireplace in the west room, with an axial floor beam. The staircase now rises at the rear of the stack, leading to a small room on the east side. The cottage also has old plank doors with iron hinges, contributing to its picturesque appearance.
