Description
The ice house at Ardeley Bury, located 12 meters north of the house, dates from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and is built into an earth bank on the inner edge of the moat. The structure features a domed circular chamber with a deep conical well that is below the level of the entrance passage from the south. Access is gained near the springing of the dome through a narrow vaulted passage that is lined with brick and originally had a wooden door at each end. The outer plank door has been renewed, and it is advisable to check for the inner door.
