Description

Cob Cottage is an 18th-century small, box-like, two-storey thatched house located on the south side of Station Road. Its gabled roof runs parallel to the road, and it features a thatched, single-storey weatherboarded lean-to at the eastern end. The cottage has a brick plinth that is higher and more prominent in the lean-to area. The front is plastered above a weatherboarded band that reaches up to the sill of the ground floor windows. The western gable is thickened at the ground floor and is plastered above, while the gable itself is weatherboarded. An internal gable chimney stack is located at the eastern end, connected by a flue from the lean-to.

The entrance door is situated at the extreme eastern end of the front, next to the chimney. There are two windows on each floor, with the first-floor featuring two-light flush wooden casements that have diamond leaded glazing. The ground floor has three-light windows of the same width and design, and there is a small leaded window in the lean-to. The plank door is modern. This cottage is an interesting example of a small roadside dwelling, likely designed with one heated room and a gable entry beside the fireplace. It is a notable survival and part of a picturesque group on the south side of the road, with white stone window tracery built into the retaining wall next to the steps.
