Description

17 Knight Street is an early 18th century timber-framed house, likely built around 1725, as evidenced by the inscription "LC 1725" carved on a fire lintol in a south room on the ground floor. It is a symmetrical, two-story house with two rooms on each floor, arranged around a central chimney. The house has a steep, red pantiled roof with a gable. There are two windows on each floor, now featuring modern wood casements. A central door is set within a heavy frame and architrave, topped with a flat moulded hood supported by brackets. The gabled ends of the house are weatherboarded. A modern two-story wing is linked to the rear of the property. The roof structure comprises unfinished timbers with one purlin to each slope. Interior features include plank doors with old iron strap hinges, chamfered ceiling beams, a stop-chamfered fireplace lintol, and a moulded plank door to the south room on the ground floor.
