Description
Mimms Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, renovated in the 18th century, with end extensions added in the early 19th century. It features a timber frame on a low plastered sill, covered in dark weatherboarding, with a red brick porch on the north side. The steep pitched roofs were originally thatched but are now covered with old red tiles. The cottage is 1½-storeys high and has a two-cell layout with an internal chimney and a lobby-entry plan. It is set well back from the road, facing south, and includes lean-to extensions at the ends.
The south front has three casement windows, with the middle window replacing a former central door, and three dormer windows, along with an entrance into the eastern outshut. The windows are two-lights flush leaded casements. On the north front, there are 18th-century three-light leaded casement windows, a cast iron framed window in the west outshut, and a 20th-century brick porch.
Inside, the cottage has exposed timbers, long straight braces in the walls, and an axial chamfered and stopped beam in the west room with exposed joists. The east room has axial joists only, and there are back-to-back open fireplaces.
