Description

The Coal Duty Marker, dating from around 1861, is a Grade II listed structure located in Cheshunt. It was erected to indicate the boundary within which the London coal duty was applied. The marker is made of painted cast iron and stands approximately 1.5 metres high. It has a square cross-section with a flat pyramidal top, chamfered corners, and roll-moulded necking. A raised armorial shield featuring a painted cross, representing the arms of the City of London, is displayed on the marker. Below the shield, there is an inscription that reads 'Act 14 & 14 VICT C I ? 4 ?'. Currently, the marker is not set vertically and leans to the left.
