Description
No 28 Eastwick Road is a house built in 1860, as indicated by the quatrefoil datestone in the front gable. This small red brick Gothic estate cottage faces north and features a short single storey on the west side, alongside a wide one and a half storeys cross wing with a gable facing the road. The roofs are pitched at a 45-degree angle, covered with slate and adorned with heavy painted bargeboards. A tall red brick chimney with a moulded cap and base rises from the structure.
The house has tall mullioned wooden windows, including both 2-light and 3-light designs, fitted with cast iron diamond lattice casements, gauged flat arches, and flush stone sills. The datestone is positioned below the sill of the upper window in the cross wing. There is a porch in the angle that has been extended in brickwork. This house seems to represent an experimental flatter pitched variation of the standard design found on the Gilston Park Estate under John Hodgson. It is part of a picturesque group located opposite the Plume of Feathers public house and is included for its group value.
