Description
Trevarthen is a 17th century timber-framed house with a parallel 18th century front range, located on Sheering Mill Lane. The building is two storeys high, with the northwest and south sides plastered, while the east side is weatherboarded. It features steep half-hipped roofs that are now slated. The longer rear range on the west has a large central chimney and four windows on the first floor arranged in two pairs. The ground floor has 19th century, two-light, two-paned wood casements set flush, along with two and four-light transomed casements.
The southern front, which is the higher 18th century range, has an internal gable chimney on the west and a modern external gable chimney on the east. The symmetrical front has three windows, including two attractive flush sash windows with six-over-six panes, Gothic pointed heads, and interlaced glazing bars, positioned on either side of a wide 19th century projecting two-storey gabled porch. The porch has an open arched wooden frame below, enclosed by simpler Gothic casements above.
On the ground floor, the windows include an 18th century Gothic sash window with six-over-six panes on the west side and a three-light sash window with a combination of two-over-two, six-over-six, and two-over-two panes on the east side. All the 18th century Gothic windows have projecting drip moulds. The entrance features a four-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed and surrounded by a moulded architrave. The overall appearance of the building is picturesque.
