Description

Fair Green Lodge is a large house dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, or possibly earlier with later remodelling. The house faces west, with its north gable facing the street. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a rendered plinth. The steep roof is covered in old red tiles, hipped to the eaves, and features a modillioned wooden eaves cornice and gabled dormers in both the north and east roof slopes. The house is two storeys and has attics. The north end has a single window centrally positioned on each floor, with flush box sashes containing 6/6 panes. Two dormer windows have diamond-leaded glazing. A large central chimney is located near the south end, with three engaged square shafts, and several lateral chimneys at the rear (east), the largest near the north end. Rear extensions consist of one and two-storey additions with hipped tile or slate roofs, weatherboarded or plastered walls, and 18th or 19th century sash windows. The front facade facing west is asymmetrical, featuring three two-storey bay windows with a single sash window between each. The bay windows have flush box sashes with 4/4:6/6:4/4 panes, while the windows between the bays have 6/6 panes. A 19th-century porch with slender cast iron free-standing columns and pilasters, a moulded flat hood, and a half-glazed door are present. A fine entrance gate is attached to the northwest corner of the house, featuring projecting stucco piers with plinths and caps, oak posts, an ornamental oak gate with wrought iron side panels and an overthrow, and a foliate iron panel set into the gate.
