Description

The Nathaniel Brassey Tomb is located in St Mary's Churchyard in Hertford and dates from 1798. It is a chest tomb made of Portland stone, set on a two-stepped base. The tomb features corner pilasters that are intricately carved with swags and ribbons, while the sides have raised and fielded panels. Long panels are inscribed, and there is a frieze with a roll moulded top. Atop the chest tomb is a tapered sarcophagus resting on claw feet, which has panelled sides, two of which are adorned with carved armorial bearings. The sarcophagus has a scroll moulded top that rises to a domed finial.
