Description

No. 7 Railway Street is a house that now functions as a ground floor shop. It dates from the 17th century, with a front that was updated in the 18th century and some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and covered in stucco, featuring applied painted woodblocks to give the appearance of rusticated masonry on the ground floor. It has an old tiled roof.

The exterior consists of two storeys and attics. On the first floor, there is a single 19th-century flush-set sash window with divided glazing and a moulded architrave frame. The ground floor features a 19th-century closed plate glazed shop window, which has a cast-iron pierced ventilator panel above, moulded jambs, and a reeded sill. To the right, there is a half-glazed door with a lower panel that is fielded and raised, surrounded by a bolection frame. A coved wood cornice runs across the facade above the shop window, topped with a 20th-century fascia board. There is also a single box casement dormer in the roof.

The interior of the ground floor has been opened up, concealing most of the original structure, and the upper floors were not inspected. At the rear, there are large flat-roofed extensions from the 1970s facing a service yard to the Bircherley Green shopping centre, which are not considered of special interest.
