Description
No. 81 Low Petergate is a former house now serving as a shop. It dates back to the 15th century and was rebuilt at the rear in the early 18th century, with various extensions added over time. The shopfront was altered in the 19th century. The building features a timber frame with stucco at the front, while the rear is made of orange-brown brick laid in stretcher bond. It has a tiled roof with brick stacks.
The exterior is three stories high with one gabled bay facing the street, and it has jettied first and second floors. The shopfront includes a two-light plate glass window with a convex sill above a moulded panel riser, a half-glazed door to the left, and a 20th-century passage door with glazed lights on the right. The windows are Yorkshire sashes, with four 6-pane windows on the first floor and two 9-pane windows on the second floor. At the rear, there is a casement window beneath a one-course segmental brick arch on the upper floor. The interior has not been inspected.
