Description

Bengeo Hall Cottage is a detached cottage located approximately 5 meters south of the west wing of Bengeo Hall. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone some alterations and extensions in the 20th century. The cottage is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a gabled roof covered with old tiles.

The exterior of the cottage is two storeys high and was extended westwards in the late 1980s. The west and south elevations are fitted with 20th-century sash windows that sit beneath segmental brick arches with flat extrados. The north elevation, which faces the rear yard, has two 19th-century square recessed sash windows with nine panes each on the first floor. The ground floor includes three doors that are two-panel designs, featuring elaborate upper panels with a Chinese Chippendale pattern, which are glazed behind, and flush lower panels, all set beneath segmental brick arches.

The interior has not been inspected.

A notable feature of the property is a substantial red brick wall, approximately 3 meters high, also in Flemish bond, which encloses the service yard. This wall includes an attached 18th-century storage hutch with wood latticework and slated sides, along with twin two-panel wood latticework doors. The wall extends around the north side of the west wing and includes gate piers, as well as a lean-to on the east side that has a slate roof supported by brick piers with moulded stone caps and oak finials. The main west face of the wall is cement rendered and has wires for vines, although the vinery has since been demolished.

Bengeo Hall Cottage and the wall contribute to the overall setting of Bengeo Hall.
