Description

This is an early 19th-century cottage, altered and extended in the later 19th century and again in 1993-94. The cottage is constructed of stuccoed brickwork with flint and yellow brick quoins, featuring a thatched reed roof with a block patterned ridge, and slate roofs with lead roll hips. It is built in a picturesque style. The building is single and two-storied, with the first floor partially sunk into the ground at the rear due to the site’s slope, forming a rectangular structure with canted ends. The front of the cottage has three flush-set 12-pane sash windows, while the rear has two 12-pane sash windows. The thatched roof extends broadly over the ends, reflecting a polygonal plan. The ground floor front retains some channelled rustication and features a central semicircular headed window. A two-story lean-to extension from the late 19th century is present on the right side, alongside large 20th-century extensions that incorporate an octagonal pavilion matching the form of the original cottage. The interior includes an octagonal first-floor room with a modillioned plaster ceiling cornice.
