Description

Gate lodge, dating from the 18th century, with extensions added in the mid-19th century and a 20th-century addition to the rear. The lodge is constructed of yellow/salmon brick with buff brick dressings, and has hipped slate roofs. A half-timbered, jettied extension projects from the south side, featuring a steeply pitched hipped roof, ornamental red cresting, and a finial which is similar to those added to the older part of the building. There are two tall brick chimneys with pilaster strips and enlarged heads.

Originally, the lodge had a symmetrical design with single-storey hipped wings on either side of a two-storey, semi-octagonal centre. The windows are small-paned casements with gauged brick ogee arched heads, and arched tracery in the window heads. Brick quoins are present. The jettied south side of the 19th-century extension is supported by six heavy timber brackets and moulded stone corbels, with a three-light casement window to the front. The interior has not been inspected.
