Description

The gates and gate piers at the entrance to the north extension of Ware Cemetery, located on the north side of Westmill Road, were laid out in 1894. However, the design of the gates and piers reflects a mid-19th century style. The gate piers are made of cast iron and feature projecting plinths, a pierced shaft with moulded guilloche ornament, and boldly projecting caps with cyma recta mouldings. The twin-leaf gates have cylindrical cast-iron shafts, a horizontal middle rail, and below this, the shafts are doubled. The top rails curve downward and the shafts end above the middle and top rails in spearheads, which are flanked by twin crescents.
