Description
This is a former granary, dating from the early 19th century. It's located beside the lane, at Hatchett Farm in Munden. The building is a three-storey, square structure, constructed with a timber frame and dark weatherboarding, raised on a ground floor of buff Hitch’s patent bricks. It has a steep pyramid roof covered with old red tiles. Doors are located on the south side, at both ground floor and first-floor levels, providing access to the farmyard. A small, two-light window is situated under the eaves of the top storey. The interior is plastered on laths. This is an unusual, tower-like granary, notable for its use of large, interlocking bricks patented by Caleb Hitch of Ware in 1828, which were primarily used locally.
