Description
This is a well head gear and housing built in the mid to late 19th century, located about 35 meters northwest of Raffin Green Farm House. It features an iron and timber mechanism and a brick-lined circular well shaft that supports an open timber housing. The structure has a square frame made of four posts with paired cross timbers that support the winding gear. This gear is hand-operated by an outer wheel with an iron handle, which turns a lower axle fitted with a small cog wheel. This cog wheel engages with a larger cog wheel on the upper axle, which has a central iron-plated timber wheel over which a lifting cable passes. The gabled head is supported by angled struts and is covered with machine-made pantiles. Raffin Green Farmhouse itself is not listed.
