Description
The Hankin monuments are two churchyard monuments located side by side in the churchyard of the Old Church of St James, 11 metres south of the chancel. They date from the 18th century and 1809 and commemorate members of the Hankin family. Both monuments are made of limestone and feature moulded tombchests with darker stone top slabs that bear inscriptions. The southern tomb from the 18th century has gadrooned recessed baluster corners, egg-and-dart mouldings, winged cherub heads, and a raised fielded panel with convex quadrant corners on each face. The northern tomb is a simpler version of the southern one, with recessed baluster corners and panels but without the decorative elements.
