Description
The North Wall of the East Garden at Stanstead Bury, extending east from the northeast corner of the Bury, is a Grade II listed retaining wall that dates back to the 17th century, with upper sections rebuilt in the 18th century. This red brick wall retains the slope to the north and stands about 3 meters high on the south side. The upper part features a sloped oversailing brick coping supported by toothed corbels. There is a central rectangular embayment that was elaborated in the 19th century, which includes a small terrace and fountain. Originally, this wall enclosed the forecourt to the main entrance when the primary approach to Stanstead Bury came from the east.
