Description
The granary at Hormead Hall is a structure dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It features a timber frame resting on a high red brick base, with weatherboarding and a steep hipped roof covered in old red tiles. The granary is rectangular and has two storeys, facing south, with a separate upper door located at the east end.
Inside, the granary consists of two bays, with the upper floor supported by crossed beams and a central post. There is a staircase in the southwest corner. The roof is also arranged in two bays, featuring jowled posts and straight braces connecting to the tie-beams, supporting a queen-post clasped-purlin roof that has added collars. The wallplate shows a face halved bladed scarf joint. The interior retains some plastered ceiling along the roof slope and is close-boarded. Additionally, there are two cast iron brackets on the rear wall that were used for power transmission.
