Description

Dane House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century (including an inserted floor and chimney), the 1930s, and around 1963 (a north wing and new entrance). The house is timber-framed, with plaster rendering and weatherboarded aprons, and a long, half-hipped, steep thatched roof. The north wing is plastered and thatched. It is a one-and-a-half-storey lobby-entry plan house facing south, with four windows and two dormers in the eaves. The windows are flush two-light casements. A semi-circular thatched porch covers the entrance, which is now located within a quadrant infill at the rear. The house includes a red brick internal stack with back-to-back fireplaces. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and an axial beam in the western part of the house. The west bay is an extension open to the roof, and exposed timbers are visible inside.
