Public house. C17, refronted in C18 with C19 alterations. Timber frame probable, red brick refronting, now all roughcast. Tiled roof. Two cells, probably lobby entry originally. Two storeys and attic. Ground floor: central entrance in late C19 gabled porch with sham timber framing in gable, moulded bargeboards. Flanking canted bay windows with tiled hoods, 16-pane sash to left, 12-pane to right. First-floor outer bays have two-light small-pane flush-frame casements. Brick plat band and end pilaster strips visible beneath roughcast. In C19 a gable raised to centre front with an attic 2-light casement, moulded bargeboards. Right end has small sash in attic. Left end exposed purlins. C19 continuous lean-to outshut under catslide roof to rear. C19 stacks, internal on flanks where main range meets lean-to to rear. One-storey C20 gabled outshut to left with hipped roof to rear. INTERIOR: stop-chamfered axial binding beams, first floor not inspected. Possibly formerly known as the Chequers.
