Description

House, originally one dwelling, now divided into two properties. It dates to the early 17th century, with an 18th-century range added to the rear and a 20th-century wing at the southeast end of No. 15. The house has a timber frame on a brick sill, and is clad in white weatherboarding, with a steep roof covered in old red tiles. It is set back from the road facing west, and comprises a two-storey, two-cell house, a two-storey parallel rear range, and a later two-storey gabled wing to No. 15. A lower extension is situated at the rear of No. 11A. The rear range features an internal sidewall chimney in the middle of its rear wall. The west front has three windows to each floor; the outer windows are of three lights, the upper middle window is of two lights and a small single light is located on the ground floor, potentially marking the former location of a lobby-entry door. Modern doors are positioned to the right of each ground floor window. A large axial stack rises from the roof ridge, incorporating four conjoined diagonal shafts built from narrow bricks. Leaded windows with iron opening lights remain in No. 15, while No. 11A has replacement wooden flush casements. The interior of No. 15 retains exposed timbers in the walls and floors, wide floorboards, and old plank doors with strap hinges. It includes an axial beam to the ground floor of the original front range, but a cross-beam and staircase are present in the rear range’s northwest corner. The plan of the rear range indicates the house was divided at a later date.
