Description
This is a terrace of four houses located on Hertingfordbury Road in Hertford, dating to the 18th century with alterations in the 19th century. The houses are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, featuring grey overburnt headers, particularly visible on the right-hand side. The roofs are covered with concrete tiles, with a hipped roof on the right end. There are two red brick chimneys on the ridge and a substantial square chimney over the hipped end.
The exterior is two storeys and attics. The first floor has four two-light wooden casement windows with small panes, plus a narrower casement to the left of the window belonging to number 231. A plat band runs along the first-floor level. The ground floor features four two-light casements with heads, set beneath a plat band, and projecting grey brick rubbed arches with extrados above the band. There are also four four-panelled doors with red brick flat rubbed arches above.
The left (north) flank elevation was rebuilt in the late 19th century and incorporates two attic wooden casement windows, two small-paned casements on the first floor, and one single and one two-light casement on the ground floor. The roof has two small box casement dormers. Number 235, at the right end, has a black weatherboarded end and a rear gabled wing, along with a 20th-century single-storey lean-to on the right side.
The interior was not inspected. The terrace forms a notable part of the street frontage and is associated with number 234.
