Description
The barn at the Rose and Crown Public House, located 10 metres to the north of the public house in Aston village, dates from the 17th century and was extended in the 19th century. It features a timber frame on a brick sill, with dark weatherboarding, some of which has an edge roll, and a steeply pitched roof now covered with black corrugated iron. The barn is a tall single bay structure facing west, with a later rear outshut and a lower contemporary building attached to the west side, which has an entrance in the west gable. The rear extension and re-roofing occurred in the 19th century, aligning with the barn's roof. The taller barn includes jowled posts, curved braces to the tie beam, and a clasped-purlin roof with a collar beam truss and inclined queen-struts. There are holes for wattle infill in the wall-plate of both the barn and the west building. Additionally, the barn features pigeon holes and a small porch over the gable doors.
