Description
No. 56 High Street is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a 19th-century extension at the west end. It features a timber frame set on a stucco sill, with patent render and smooth plaster quoins. The roof is steep and covered with red tiles. The house is two stories high, with a three-cell, central-chimney, lobby-entry plan that faces south. There is a two-cell brick extension to the west that is the same height as the main structure. Originally, the central chimney was located third from the west end, with a rear lateral external chimney to the east room, which has now been reduced to eaves level. On the east gable facing the road, there is one window on each floor. The south front has three windows on the ground floor with doors between them, and two windows on the first floor. The windows are flush casement wooden windows that have been renewed, with two lights above and three lights below. The house was formerly known as Davis Farm.
